Small moves, single items and things too big for a car
A lot of what we do is not a whole home. It is one sofa that will not fit in a hatchback, a treadmill that needs to come out of a basement, a piano that nobody sensible moves themselves, or three rooms out of a house while the rest stays put.
These jobs go wrong in a specific way: people underestimate the item and overestimate the doorway. A safe or an upright piano is not a two-people-and-a-blanket problem, and a marketplace sofa that looked fine in a photo may not clear the stairwell at either end. We ask about weight, dimensions and access before quoting, so the crew that arrives is the crew the job needs.
Because they are short, small moves often fit into the same day you call, and they are the jobs most likely to be quoted over the phone in a couple of minutes.
What is included
- Single heavy items — Pianos, safes, gym equipment, appliances and anything else where the weight is concentrated and the stairs are the real problem.
- Part-of-a-home moves — A few rooms, a basement, or a garage, while the rest of the house stays exactly where it is.
- Marketplace and store pickups — Collection from a seller or a warehouse and delivery to your door, including the carry up.
- In-building and in-home moves — Between floors or between units in the same building, or just getting heavy furniture to a different room without damaging a floor.
- The same protection as a full move — Blankets, shrink wrap and floor runners come with the crew — a small job is not an excuse to skip them.

What affects the price
Every move is quoted individually. These are the things that actually move the number, so you know what we will ask about.
- Crew size and hours — most small jobs have a minimum call-out
- Weight and awkwardness of the item, which decides the crew size
- Stairs, elevator access and carry distance at both ends
- Distance between pickup and delivery
- Whether the item needs disassembly to clear a doorway or stairwell

- Can you move a piano, safe or gym equipment?
- Yes, with the right crew size and equipment. Tell us the type and, for a piano, whether it is upright or grand, plus the stairs at both ends. A single heavy item changes the crew we send, and finding out on arrival is how a job runs late or gets turned down at the door.
- Is there a minimum charge for a small move?
- Yes. Sending a crew and a truck has a fixed cost regardless of how little there is to carry, so small jobs are quoted against a minimum rather than by the item. It is still far cheaper than booking a full move, and we will tell you the minimum up front.
- Can you move one item between floors in the same building?
- Yes, and it is more common than people expect — usually a sofa or a bed that has to change rooms or floors after a renovation. It is quoted the same way as any small job, and the floor protection still goes down.
